As of December 2016, St. John the Evangelist Church is an official “Stephen Ministry” associated member. Established in 1975 it is now serving in more then 12,000 congregations, in all 50 states and in 25 other countries. This ministry strives to serve hurting people with one-to-one Christ-centered pastoral care. A Stephen Minister has a compassionate heart and has been trained and equipped with the skills to listen, encourage, and offer support to someone who has suffered a loss of one kind or another.
St. John’s has been bless to have ten people step forward to undergo a rather intensive training. In addition we will soon be sending three people to a national-level one-week workshop. They will then return to our parish in order to prove the necessary training for our seven other volunteers. In time, we hope others will step-up to receive this training in order to be Stephen Ministers for wounded people in our parish and area.
We will continue to update you on the progress of this important new ministry in our parish.
